Agartala, November 21, 2025: In yet another major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, Assam Police seized approximately 258 kg of dried ganja, valued at over ₹1.80 crore, from a lorry at the Churaibari checkpost in the early hours of Thursday.

The vehicle, a Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number TR08E-1531, was en route from Agartala to Assam when it was intercepted around 4:30 a.m. During routine checks, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, intensifying police suspicion.

Upon inspection, officers recovered 282 packets of ganja concealed inside cartons, including those disguised as fish consignments. The operation was led by Churaibari outpost in-charge Pranab Mili.

Authorities suspect possible collusion involving SPOs, constables, and local workers engaged in vehicle inspections at the checkpost. Allegations suggest that some workers may have facilitated smuggling by giving clearance signals during checks over the past two years.

This seizure adds to a growing list of narcotics hauls in the region. In the past week alone, Assam Police have confiscated ganja worth an estimated ₹6–7 crore, smuggled from Tripura through multiple routes.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are underway to identify the network behind the smuggling operation.
