Assam Rifles, Police, and Forest Service Destroy Cannabis Worth ₹3.5 Crore in Tripura

Agartala, January 16, 2025: In a decisive move against illegal drug cultivation, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Police and Tripura Forest Service (TFS), launched a meticulously planned operation in the early hours of January 16, 2025. The joint operation targeted extensive cannabis plantations in Tripura’s Kathalia area under Jatrapur Police Station of Sepahijala district.

Spanning approximately 110 acres (44.5 hectares), the operation resulted in the destruction of an estimated 90,000 cannabis plants, valued at ₹3.5 crore in the illicit market. Officials emphasized the significance of the crackdown in curbing the drug menace and safeguarding the region’s well-being.

“This mission demonstrates our unwavering commitment to eradicating drug cultivation and protecting the community from its harmful effects,” said an official from the Assam Rifles. The success of the operation was attributed to the crucial support provided by the local administration, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing drug-related challenges.

The large-scale action marks a critical step toward fostering a drug-free environment and ensuring a safer future for the people of Tripura. Authorities have reiterated their dedication to continuing such efforts to eliminate illegal drug activities in the region.
