Agartala, June 16, 2025: In a significant blow to smuggling networks operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Assam Rifles recovered a massive consignment of contraband foreign cigarettes near the Chandrapur area of Agartala in Tripura on Sunday night.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel launched a targeted operation and successfully intercepted 170 cartons of banned foreign-brand cigarettes. The estimated international market value of the seized items is around ₹5.1 crore.
Following the seizure, the confiscated goods were promptly handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and initiation of legal proceedings.
Officials said the operation reflects Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and protect the country’s economic integrity. The force has maintained heightened surveillance in vulnerable areas along the border to counter illegal trade and safeguard national interests.
