Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Lawngtlai Excise & Narcotics Department, seized 247.65 grams of opium worth ₹1.25 lakh from a house in Shitlangpui village, Lawngtlai district, and arrested two individuals, officials confirmed.
The operation was based on credible intelligence and carried out during an area domination patrol on August 27. The arrested persons and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This seizure is part of a series of joint operations across the Northeast targeting insurgency and drug trafficking. Between August 18 and 23, similar operations in Manipur led to the arrest of eight insurgent cadres and the recovery of 10 weapons, grenades, ammunition, and other military stores.
On August 20, Assam Rifles, along with Thoubal Police Commandos, apprehended three cadres of the RPF/PLA in Thoubal district. Raids near Loktak Lake also uncovered an AK‑47 rifle, single-barrel rifle, smoke grenades, radio sets, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, and various rounds of ammunition.
Officials stated that these sustained operations demonstrate the continued efforts of security agencies to tackle both insurgency and narcotics smuggling in the region.
