A mild earthquake of 2.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck Karbi Anglong district in Assam on Saturday morning, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed.
The tremor occurred at 10:38 am, with its epicentre at latitude 26.44°N and longitude 93.22°E, at a depth of 10 kilometres. No casualties or damage have been reported.
This follows recent seismic activity in northern and northeastern India. On August 21, Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir experienced a 3.5-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 5 kilometres. Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district recorded two earthquakes on August 20, measuring 3.3 and 4.0 in magnitude at depths of 20 and 10 kilometres respectively.
Authorities continue to monitor these regions, highlighting their seismic vulnerability.
