Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that 33 Bangladeshi nationals who had entered the state illegally were deported back across the border.

In a post on X, Sarma stated, “Another 33 infiltrators have been sent back to Bangladesh,” and warned that the state’s anti-infiltration operations would be intensified in the coming days.

Security officials said most of the deportations are being carried out through the Sribhumi sector, though the Chief Minister did not specify the exact border point.
Officials noted that over the past few months, more than 450 alleged illegal foreigners have already been repatriated. Sarma had earlier mentioned that an average of 70 to 100 individuals are being sent back each week as part of the ongoing drive.
Emphasizing the aim of an “infiltration-free Assam,” Sarma highlighted that the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police have tightened security along the 1,885 km-long India-Bangladesh border to prevent illegal crossings.
