Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that 38 people were arrested overnight in connection with a communal incident in Dhubri district, following the alleged recovery of a beef head.
The incident led to heightened tensions in the area, prompting authorities to impose a night-time shoot-at-sight order to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.
In response to the situation, the state government transferred Dhubri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navin Singh. Hailakandi SSP Leena Doley has been appointed as his replacement, according to an official notification.
“38 arrested overnight in the Dhubri beef head incident,” the chief minister said in a post on X.
