Guwahati, May 15: AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam has been detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in Assam’s Nagaon district for allegedly making remarks defending Pakistan in connection with the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

The three-time legislator was initially arrested on April 24 on sedition charges after allegedly making “misleading and instigating statements” during a public address. Police stated that the remarks went viral on social media and had the potential to disturb public order.

Islam was granted bail on Wednesday, but was immediately re-detained under the stringent NSA and lodged again at Nagaon Central Jail. Nagaon Superintendent of Police Swapnanil Deka confirmed that the detention is linked to the same allegations for which he was earlier arrested.
