Assam has achieved a historic milestone by crossing the 8 lakh metric tonne (MT) mark in paddy procurement under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday described the achievement as a “historic milestone” for the state’s agriculture sector.

Sarma shared the update on X, stating, “For the first time ever, Assam has crossed the 8 lakh MT mark in paddy procurement under MSP—a historic achievement in our journey of prosperity.”

Official data shows that Assam procured 6,97,802.74 MT of paddy in the first crop cycle and 1,04,757.98 MT in the second cycle up to September 5, 2025, bringing the total procurement to 8,02,560.72 MT.

In a related update on farm procurement, Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh assured that cotton arrivals under MSP will be procured without disruption this season. Chairing a high-level review in New Delhi, Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring remunerative prices for cotton farmers.

He added that procurement processes by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) have been made fully faceless and paperless, in line with the Digital India initiative. For the upcoming KMS 2025-26, procurement centres will expand to a record 550 across cotton-growing states. Cotton procurement will begin from October 1 in northern states, October 15 in central states, and October 21 in southern states.
