Guwahati, Dec 16: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is intensifying its preparations for the upcoming panchayat elections in Assam. The party is focusing on strengthening its grassroots presence through the establishment of committees at the district, block, and panchayat levels.
AIUDF General Secretary Rafiqul Islam expressed confidence in the party’s readiness, emphasizing that their efforts are progressing smoothly at the local level. “We are working diligently at the grassroots level, and we are fully prepared to contest the elections with full strength once the dates are announced,” Islam said.
The panchayat elections, which are held every five years, will take place across 27 districts and 13 sub-divisions in Assam. The release of the draft electoral rolls by the Assam State Election Commission has officially kicked off the election process.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition Congress are also ramping up their respective campaigns as the election season approaches. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the elections will be completed by February 10, 2024, and highlighted the government’s ongoing welfare measures, including the distribution of new ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), which is benefiting thousands of families in the state.
