Guwahati, Feb 24, 2026: Akasa Air became the first airline to operate from the newly built terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati, marking a significant boost to Northeast connectivity.

The inaugural flight departed Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 1:40 PM on February 22 and landed in Guwahati at 4:45 PM. The return flight left Guwahati at 5:20 PM, arriving in Mumbai at 9:10 PM.

The ceremony included lamp-lighting and cake-cutting, attended by Akasa Air Co-Founder and SVP-Strategy Bhavin Joshi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Guwahati Airport officials, and Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited. The first passenger also received a special boarding pass.

Developed by Guwahati International Airport Limited and operated by Adani Airport Holdings, the modern terminal is expected to ensure smoother operations for Akasa Air, India’s fastest-growing carrier. The airline highlighted that the move aligns with its focus on high-growth markets and modern aviation in India.

Akasa Air, operating a young Boeing 737 MAX fleet, is known for its tech-driven service, employee-friendly culture, and passenger-centric features such as ample legroom, USB ports, Cafe Akasa meals, pet travel, and Braille safety cards. The airline connects 26 domestic cities, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Agartala, and Bagdogra, along with six international destinations including Doha and Phuket.

Since its launch in August 2022, Akasa Air has carried over 24 million passengers and maintains India’s greenest fleet with 226 Boeing 737 MAX planes on order for low-emission, efficient flights.
