Guwahati, Mar 31: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled its manifesto for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, outlining 31 key promises aimed at economic development, social welfare, and disaster management.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, releasing the “Sankalp Patra,” announced plans to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam, excluding Sixth Schedule areas and tribal communities, and pledged strict action against what the party described as “love jihad.” He also proposed an investment of Rs 18,000 crore over the next two years to make the state flood-free.

The manifesto seeks to enhance the Orunodoi scheme, raising monthly cash transfers for women from Rs 1,250 to Rs 3,000. It targets 40 lakh women with Rs 25,000 incentives each and promises 2 lakh jobs over five years. Education and healthcare initiatives include the “One District, One Medical College, One University, One Engineering College” scheme.

Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Sarbananda Sonowal, along with state BJP president Dilip Saikia, attended the launch. Saikia noted that 2.45 lakh public suggestions contributed to shaping the manifesto and highlighted the party’s focus on creating a “secure and developed Assam.”

The BJP released its manifesto days after the Congress unveiled its five guarantees, which include unconditional monthly cash for women, Rs 1,250 pensions for senior citizens, Rs 25 lakh family health cover, resolution of singer Zubeen Garg’s case in 100 days, and land rights for 10 lakh indigenous people.

Polling for all 126 assembly seats is scheduled for April 9, with results declared on May 4. The BJP is contesting as the lead party in the NDA alongside allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), seeking a third consecutive term, while Congress aims to regain power.
