Guwahati, Nov 7: The Assam government has declared November 13, 2024, a public holiday in five assembly constituencies where by-elections will take place. The affected constituencies are Dholai (SC), Sidli (ST), Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri.

An official order issued by M.S. Manivannan, Commissioner and Secretary of the General Administration Department, confirmed that all government offices, private businesses, educational institutions, banks, tea gardens, and industries within these constituencies will remain closed on the day of the bypolls.

The by-elections have been necessitated as the sitting representatives of these constituencies vacated their seats after being elected to the Lok Sabha in 2024. The public holiday, declared under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, aims to ensure smooth polling and maximize voter participation in the elections.
