The Assam government has approved a proposal to borrow Rs 2,750 crore from the World Bank to support various initiatives in the state’s education sector, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday.
Addressing the media after a cabinet meeting in Dibrugarh, Sarma said the loan would be utilised to strengthen educational infrastructure and implement key reforms. He further stated that the repayment responsibility will be shared between the Centre and the state government, with 90 per cent of the amount to be borne by the central government and the remaining Rs 275 crore by the state.
The move is aimed at improving the quality of education and ensuring better learning outcomes across Assam.
