Guwahati, Jun 23: The Assam Cabinet has approved the implementation of the ‘Shraddhanjali Scheme’ to facilitate the dignified and lawful transportation of mortal remains of residents who pass away while working or studying outside the State.
The scheme, which will come into effect from October 1, 2025, is primarily aimed at supporting families of youths engaged in low-paying jobs or students residing in other states at the time of their death. Under the scheme, the State government will bear all expenses related to bringing the bodies back to Assam.
The initiative is intended to ease the logistical challenges and financial burden faced by bereaved families and ensure that the final journey of the deceased is carried out with full respect and coordination.
