The Assam Cabinet has approved a proposal to notify Urpad Beel and Hasila Beel in Goalpara district as Proposed Reserve Forests (PRF) under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891.

The two wetlands are known for their ecological significance and are home to diverse species of flora and fauna. They also play a vital role in water purification, groundwater recharge, and flood mitigation in the region.

With this decision, the state aims to enhance protection of these sensitive ecosystems and promote long-term conservation efforts. The notification will enable stricter regulation and management of human activities in and around the beel areas.
