The Assam Cabinet has approved the post-facto procurement of 500 MW of coal-based power from the Union Coal Ministry, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The electricity will be supplied at Rs 5.79 per unit to ensure affordable power for consumers, the chief minister added on X after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The cabinet also approved a 1,500 MW pumped storage project in Karbi Anglong district to strengthen the state’s clean energy infrastructure.
