In a significant achievement, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Chirang district in Assam has successfully cleared all its pending cases by the end of 2024, reaching a rare milestone of zero pendency. This feat stands out in a country where over 4.5 crore cases remain pending in district and subordinate courts, as reported by the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG).

Nandita Basumatari, Public Prosecutor for the Chirang District Court, confirmed that at the beginning of 2024, there were 143 pending cases. During the year, 687 new cases were added, bringing the total to 830 cases. By December 31, 2024, all 830 cases had been disposed of, resulting in a 100% disposal rate.

Additionally, the conviction rate in Chirang district for 2024 was 23.29%, with December seeing an increase to 26.89%.

Basumatari attributed this remarkable achievement to the collaborative efforts of the police, prosecution, defense lawyers, the BAR Association of Chirang, and the court staff, all of whom worked together to ensure timely justice. This success highlights the efficiency and dedication of the judicial system in Chirang, setting a benchmark for other districts to follow.
