Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has described the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his family’s alleged connections with Pakistan as “grave and shocking.” The report was informally reviewed during a state cabinet meeting on Monday at Lok Sewa Bhawan.

The SIT, led by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, submitted the report on September 10. The investigation was initiated by the Assam Cabinet in February 2025 to examine alleged anti-national activities involving Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his network.

CM Sarma accused Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, of having ties with the accused Pakistani national and stated that the government would release a summarized version of the report to inform the public about the matter. “We will also invite media from Delhi because he holds the position of Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. It’s important for the nation to know his actual character. Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, only a summary will be published excluding confidential testimonies,” Sarma said at a press briefing.

Earlier, Sarma highlighted on social media that the SIT report pointed to a broader conspiracy aimed at undermining India’s sovereignty, allegedly involving a British national married to an Indian MP. The report also reportedly details how the Pakistan Ministry of Interior facilitated an official visit of an Assam MP to their country.

Gaurav Gogoi has denied the allegations, accusing the Chief Minister of creating fabricated narratives to divert attention from alleged corruption and misuse of power in his administration.
