Guwahati, Jan 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday stated that details regarding state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged links to Pakistan will be made public before the end of January.

Speaking to reporters in Goreswar, Sarma also criticized Gogoi over his wife and children holding British citizenship, claiming that Assamese people would not accept someone in such a position. The BJP has repeatedly raised concerns about Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colburn, alleging connections to Pakistan’s ISI.

“The documents relating to Gaurav Gogoi’s Pakistan links are being readied. Our officers are working on it. We will give it to you all before February. In fact, before the end of January, it will be revealed,” Sarma said, attributing delays to the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg in September.

When asked whether these allegations could affect Gogoi’s participation in the upcoming state elections in March-April, Sarma said, “Pakistan is our enemy country. The question is not whether of fighting elections but whether someone can have links with that country.”

Sarma also questioned Gogoi’s decision not to change his children’s citizenship, adding concerns about the ability of officers to conduct investigations at his residence.

The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe claims of interference by Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, allegedly linked to Colburn. Sarma further alleged that Gogoi visited Pakistan on an ISI invitation, underwent training there, and collaborated with its establishment, while Colburn was accused of collecting sensitive documents for a Pakistani climate lobby.

Responding to the allegations, Gogoi dismissed them as “ridiculous, baseless, insane, and nonsense,” accusing Sarma of acting like an “IT cell troll” without evidence.
