Guwahati, July 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is deliberately misrepresenting his comments on illegal immigration to portray them as anti-Bengali.
In a statement posted on his official X handle, Sarma reiterated Assam’s decades-long campaign against illegal infiltration by Bangladeshi Muslims. He claimed the TMC’s attempt to distort his media remarks was a “desperate ploy” to protect illegal immigrants.
“Assam has been waging a relentless war against illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims for several decades,” Sarma stated. “The recent attempt by the @AITCofficial to distort my media remarks and portray our stand as anti-Bengali is nothing but a desperate ploy to shield Muslim infiltrators from Bangladesh—whose very presence threatens to alter the demographic fabric of our nation.”
The Chief Minister clarified that his government’s stand is not against any linguistic community. “In Assam, every Indian citizen—including Bengali-speaking people—fully understands our position and supports our uncompromising stand against illegal Muslim immigration from Bangladesh,” he added.
