Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Bharatiya Janata Party Central Parliamentary Board has announced candidates for 88 out of 89 constituencies for the upcoming elections in Assam, with the candidate for the Sissiborgaon seat to be announced shortly.
He stated that the party has included candidates from youth, women, Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and the Nath community. According to him, party workers have responded positively to the list.
Sarma also said that the BJP has allocated 26 seats to its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad, whose leadership is expected to announce its candidates soon. He added that the Bodoland People’s Front will also release its list.
He further informed that Tankeswar Rabha, Chief Executive Member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, will contest in the election. Sarma said he will file his nomination on the following day, along with several other candidates.
In a separate statement, the Chief Minister said that due to delimitation, several MLAs no longer have their previous constituencies. He added that a number of young leaders from the BJP have been given election tickets.
