Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a newly constructed district jail at Kajalgaon in Chirang district. Built at a cost of ₹72.79 crore, the facility has a capacity to house 500 inmates, including men, women, and third-gender individuals.
The modern correctional facility is equipped with essential infrastructure and security arrangements. Key features include 60 quarantine cells, 5 solitary confinement cells, and dedicated space for 35 detainees under the National Security Act (NSA). Additionally, the jail houses a 28-bed ward for male inmates and a 10-bed ward for female inmates.
The new jail aims to enhance the state’s correctional infrastructure and improve inmate management in the region.
