Guwahati, May 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday inspected the site of the erstwhile Assam Co-operative Sugar Mill at Barua Bamungaon in the Khumtai constituency of Golaghat district, identifying it as a potential site for future industrial development.
As part of the state government’s efforts to expand industrial infrastructure and ensure land availability for investors, Sarma said the visit follows the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, which saw interest from several industrial groups seeking land in Assam.
The Chief Minister mentioned that land for two industrial projects in Numaligarh has already been allotted and that more ventures are expected. He said the government is taking steps to allocate suitable land and prevent encroachment on government-owned vacant plots.
Sarma stated that around 500 bighas of land at the defunct sugar mill site could be developed into an industrial park once legal and administrative matters are addressed. He added that a boundary wall will be constructed around the site, with work expected to begin soon.
Instructions have also been issued to district commissioners across the state to safeguard government land and support the establishment of industrial zones.
