Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Tuesday, ahead of discussions with global semiconductor industry leaders.
Sarma highlighted Tata Group’s pivotal role in anchoring Assam’s semiconductor sector. “The Tata Group is anchoring Assam’s semiconductor industry and we are keen to strengthen this ecosystem by joining hands with key global players,” he said in a post on X, using the hashtags #AssamAtDavos and #WEF26.
Speaking to ANI, Sarma noted growing interest in Assam due to Tata’s presence, which is fostering a developing semiconductor ecosystem. “We are having a good meeting tomorrow on Semiconductor. Along with Tata, we are lining up… once we interact, I think things will move,” he added.
Making Assam’s debut at the 56th WEF on Monday, Sarma pitched the state as an “emerging economy” and the fastest-growing in India, according to recent RBI data. He emphasized Guwahati’s appeal to Northeast talent and urged global investors to consider Assam as a prime destination within India, while also highlighting geographical challenges faced by industries in other Northeast states.
