Guwahati, Nov 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called on Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to strengthen railway connectivity across Assam by expanding the rail network and introducing new train services.

During a meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, Sarma proposed the launch of three new Amrit Bharat trains to and from Assam and suggested developing a new rail link between Umrangso in Dima Hasao district and Lanka in Hojai district.

He also urged the early completion of the Kokrajhar–Gelephu railway line, which aims to connect Assam with Bhutan, enhancing regional and cross-border transportation. Additionally, the chief minister requested more stoppages for major trains passing through Assam to make travel more convenient for passengers.

Vaishnaw assured Sarma that the proposals including the introduction of new trains, creation of fresh rail links, and additional stoppages would be implemented soon.
