Guwahati, June 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has intervened in the controversy surrounding Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah’s alleged remarks against a journalist, describing the comment as “inappropriate”. The minister’s comments, made during a press conference on June 27, 2025, sparked widespread condemnation from journalists and press associations across the state.
The Chief Minister has urged Minister Baruah to issue a public apology and has also expressed regret on his behalf. CM Sarma emphasized the importance of treating everyone equally and apologizing for any wrongdoing. He also highlighted the need to differentiate between working journalists and media ownership, stating that politicians’ criticisms are often directed at media owners rather than journalists.
The incident has led to protests and demands for accountability from the media fraternity, with many calling for a formal apology from Minister Baruah. The Chief Minister’s intervention aims to resolve the issue and restore harmony between the government and the media.
