Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated a tea tourism project aimed at promoting the state’s tea estates as premier tourist destinations.
The project, initiated by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), has begun with the conversion of the heritage bungalow at Durrung Tea Estate in Sonitpur into a luxury hotel, developed by the Postcard Hotel Group.
After inspecting the property, Sarma said the initiative would significantly boost tea tourism in Assam. He noted that several prominent personalities had already visited the estate, and advance bookings were being received from tourists outside the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted that tea tourism would not only showcase Assam’s tea heritage, lush greenery, and the lifestyle of tea garden workers but also create local employment, support cottage industries, and promote the region’s cultural richness.
