Assam CM Meets Civil Aviation Minister Naidu; Discusses Airport Projects And Connectivity Expansion In The State

Guwahati, May 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in New Delhi to discuss key initiatives aimed at enhancing air connectivity and aviation infrastructure across the Northeast.

During the meeting, Sarma stated that work on the proposed greenfield airport in Silchar is expected to commence this year. The Civil Aviation Minister assured that the strategically important Rupsi airport will also be expanded.

In addition, new flight routes are being planned to connect Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Silchar with more Indian cities. Both leaders agreed to revisit and strengthen the UDAN scheme to make it more effective and sustainable, enabling more first-time flyers from the region.
