Guwahati, Nov 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has signed a Letter of Intent with the British Museum to bring the sacred Vrindavani Vastra to Assam under a loan arrangement. The announcement was made on X, where the Chief Minister described it as a “red-letter moment” that strengthens the state’s connection to its cultural and spiritual heritage.

The Vrindavani Vastra, a textile featuring intricate motifs of Lord Krishna’s Raas Leela with the Gopis and the Dasavatara, reflects Assam’s artistic excellence and devotion. CM Sarma highlighted that while many have heard of the textile through kirtans and stories, few have seen it in person.

The British Museum has agreed to loan the Vrindavani Vastra for 18 months, starting in 2027. A state-of-the-art museum is under development in Guwahati to house the textile during this period. CM Sarma also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance in initiating the project.
