Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the investigation into Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Colburn’s alleged links with Pakistan will now be handed over to a central agency.

The state government had earlier constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the allegations raised by Sarma against the couple. The SIT submitted its report to the Chief Minister on September 10.

Speaking on the sidelines of a programme, Sarma said, “The SIT has already filed a charge sheet in a separate case related to the death of Zubeen Garg. Now that this case is resolved and headed to regular trial, we will move to the Gaurav Gogoi matter. We will share some documents by the end of this month or next.”

He added that due to the complexity of the case, it is not possible for the Assam SIT to carry out a full investigation. “The matter will go to a central agency for further probe,” he said, while asserting that the SIT’s findings are “sufficient to draw a conclusion against the accused.”

Gaurav Gogoi has denied the allegations, describing them as similar to a “C-grade Bollywood film” destined to fail.
