Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to speed up repair and maintenance works on roads, footpaths, and manholes across Guwahati and other districts ahead of Durga Puja.
In a review meeting with PWD officials on Tuesday night, Sarma stressed that all open manholes following drain cleaning must be covered promptly. He also directed the department to adopt a standard operating procedure to ensure accountability in such works.
The Chief Minister further instructed officials to make the Noonmati–Dighalipukhuri flyover commuter-friendly and carry out emergency repairs on vital roads in Guwahati, Cachar, and Sribhumi.
Top state officials, including Principal Secretary to the CM K K Dwivedi, GMC Commissioner M S Lakshmipriya, PWD Commissioner Paban Terang, and Chief Engineer (Roads) Sanjib Shyam, attended the meeting.
