Guwahati, Jun 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said he has written to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri regarding the gas blowout incident at Barichuk.

In a statement posted on his official X handle, the Chief Minister said he had conveyed the state’s concerns and requested the Union Minister to direct the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to intensify well control operations in mission mode to prevent the situation from worsening.

He added that the Assam government is providing all necessary relief to the affected people. However, he stressed the need for a more proactive approach from ONGC to mitigate the situation and restore normalcy in the area.
