Guwahati, April 6: Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has filed a case against Congress leader Pawan Khera over allegations that she holds multiple passports and owns undisclosed properties in Dubai.
The move comes after Khera, chairman of the AICC’s Media Publicity and Communication department, alleged at a press conference that Bhuyan Sharma possessed passports from the UAE, Antigua-Barbuda, and Egypt, and owned two Dubai properties not mentioned in Sarma’s election affidavit.
Rejecting the claims, Sarma and his wife described the documents circulated by Congress as “fabricated” and a “poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation.” The Chief Minister has announced civil and criminal defamation proceedings against Khera, while Bhuyan Sharma said the matter will now be pursued in court.
Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has backed Khera’s allegations, calling them “grave and criminal offences” and demanding further investigation.
The development comes just days before Assam votes in the assembly elections on April 9, with results scheduled for May 4.
