Guwahati, March 24: The assets of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi along with his wife, Elizabeth Clare Gogoi, have increased to ₹7.57 crore, according to his nomination affidavit for the ongoing Assembly elections. This is a rise from ₹4.66 crore declared during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with his wife’s holdings accounting for most of the increase.

Gogoi’s personal movable assets rose to ₹72.59 lakh from ₹38.30 lakh, while his immovable assets increased slightly to ₹2.49 crore from ₹2.25 crore. His wife, who is 43, does not own immovable property, but her movable assets grew to ₹4.36 crore from ₹2.03 crore.

The affidavit shows Gogoi holding ₹54,700 in cash and ₹30.14 lakh in bank deposits, compared to his wife’s ₹27,180 cash and ₹1.50 crore in bank accounts, including a UK bank account. Gogoi’s investments in bonds, shares, and mutual funds total ₹11.47 lakh, with ₹32.68 lakh in postal and insurance instruments. His wife holds ₹47.12 lakh in similar investments and ₹1.04 crore in postal and insurance schemes.

Elizabeth Gogoi also declared ₹57.25 lakh in Employee Provident Fund savings and a UK pension plan worth ₹13.24 lakh. She owns 331 grams of gold (₹46.12 lakh), silver (₹11.37 lakh), diamonds (₹3.65 lakh), and a car valued at ₹2.71 lakh. Gogoi owns two vehicles worth over ₹17 lakh but has a pending car loan of ₹5.96 lakh.

In immovable assets, Gogoi has a one-third share in two Guwahati properties, including a three-storey residential building valued at ₹95 lakh, and an inherited flat in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj worth ₹1.54 crore. Neither owns agricultural land.

Gogoi faces a pending case at Guwahati’s Basistha police station related to alleged disobedience, obstruction, and assault on government officials during the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 23, 2024. His income comes from his MP salary, while his wife works as a senior consultant at Oxford Policy Management India Ltd. Their minor children—son Kabir and daughter Maya—have modest incomes of ₹25.80 lakh and ₹3,109, respectively, from savings and fixed deposits.

An engineering graduate with a Master’s in Public Administration from New York University, Gogoi is contesting his first Assembly election.
