Guwahati, Mar 6: Assam Congress president and Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi expressed grief over the death of two Indian Air Force pilots following the crash of a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft in Karbi Anglong district.

The aircraft, which was on a training mission, had taken off from the airbase in Jorhat on Thursday evening. It later crashed around 60 kilometres away in the Chokihola area under Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district.

According to officials, Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar died at the crash site.

In a post on the social media platform X, Gogoi said he was saddened by the incident and paid tribute to the two pilots. He also extended condolences to their families.

A defence spokesperson said the debris of the aircraft was located early Friday in the area.
