Guwahati, July 3: The Assam Congress has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged sale of 90 Gir cows from the state-run Gorukhuti agricultural project to individuals linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including the wife of a minister, a Member of Parliament, and several MLAs.
Addressing the media in Guwahati, senior Congress leader Ram Prasad Sarmah alleged irregularities and corruption in the functioning of the Gorukhuti project. He highlighted discrepancies between the statements made by project chairman Padma Hazarika and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and called for an independent investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.
