Assam showcased its cultural heritage and economic developments during Assam Day at the 44th India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday. The event presented visitors with an overview of the state’s traditions, industrial growth, and investment potential.
The programme began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and floral tribute to Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. Minister for Industries and Commerce Bimal Borah, Members of Parliament Kripanath Mallah and Rameswar Teli, Additional Chief Secretary J.B. Ekka, AIDC Chairman Santanu Pujari, Commissioner and Secretary of Industries and Commerce Megh Nidhi Dahal, and Resident Commissioner Assam Bhawan Kavita Padmanabhan were present.
Addressing the gathering, Bimal Borah spoke about Assam’s cultural legacy and developmental progress. He referred to support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in driving major initiatives. He highlighted the Rs 27,000-crore Tata Semiconductor Plant and investment commitments worth Rs 5 lakh crore made during the Advantage Assam Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2.0.
According to the Minister, Assam’s GSDP increased from USD 29 billion in 2013–14 to USD 68.7 billion in 2023–24. It is projected to reach USD 85.8 billion in 2025 and USD 143 billion by 2030. He also underlined Assam’s position as a gateway to Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
The celebration included Sattriya dance, folk performances, and traditional Bihu dance. Singer Arohan Bordoloi performed songs by Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg. The event, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprise, concluded with the National Anthem.
