Thousands of devotees thronged the Kamakhya Devi temple in Guwahati on Monday to observe Somvati Amavasya, offering prayers and performing rituals dedicated to their ancestors.

Pilgrims from various parts of the country gathered at the temple from early morning, participating in religious activities including prayer, charity, and ancestral rites. The day is considered spiritually significant in Hinduism, especially when Amavasya (new moon) falls on a Monday.

Neeraj Pathak, a devotee from Bhopal, shared his experience, saying, “I feel very good. It was a good Darshan.” Another devotee, Neelam Pathak, added, “I liked it very much; it was very relaxed.”

Somvati Amavasya is believed to help in appeasing ancestors and removing ‘Pitru Dosha’. Similar observances were also reported in Haridwar, where thousands took a holy dip in the river Ganga on the same occasion.
