A large-scale eviction drive is currently underway in Assam’s Golaghat district to clear alleged encroachment from over 3,600 acres of forest land, officials said on Tuesday.

The drive is being carried out in the Rengma Reserve Forest, located in the Uriamghat area along the Assam-Nagaland border under Sarupathar sub-division.

According to officials, nearly 11,000 bighas of forest land have been encroached upon, affecting around 1,500 families. Senior officials from the Golaghat district administration and the forest department are overseeing the operation.
