Assam Filmmaker Utpal Datta Wins Best Film Critic Award At 71st National Film Awards

The 71st National Film Awards for 2023, announced on Friday, honored Utpal Datta, a respected film critic, author, and filmmaker from Assam, with the Best Film Critic award.

Shilpika Bordoloi’s non-feature film Mau: The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw (Mizo) was awarded Best Debut Film of a Director. The feature film Rongatapu 1982, directed by Adityam Saikia, received the Best Assamese Film award.

In the category for films made in languages not listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, Dominic Megam Sangma’s Rimdogittanga was recognized as Best Garo Film. Meanwhile, Pai Tang: Step of Hope, directed by Prabal Khaund, won the Best Tai Phake Film award.
