The Assam Forest Department’s eviction drive to clear nearly 1,500 hectares of encroached forest land in Golaghat district entered its fifth day on Saturday.
The operation targets the Rengma Reserve Forest in Uriamghat, near the Assam-Nagaland border in Sarupathar subdivision. Officials stated that around 1,500 families, mostly from the Muslim community, are expected to be displaced as the eviction progresses.
The drive began on Tuesday as part of efforts to restore the encroached forest area.
