Guwahati, Dec 9: The Assam government has reached a significant milestone in its infrastructure development by successfully constructing 31,869 kilometers of roads and 1,401 bridges across the state. This achievement is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated the accomplishment on Social Media X, calling it a vital component of the “Assam Growth Story.” He emphasized that improving connectivity, especially in aspirational districts, has been a key priority for the state government. “We have constructed over 31,800 km of roads and completed more than 1,400 bridges under various schemes,” Sarma stated.

The infrastructure expansion includes 9,066 roads and 1,401 bridges, which have significantly improved transportation networks across the state. Additionally, 4,125 habitations with populations over 250 people have been geo-tagged, and 3,322 habitations are slated for development under the PMGSY-IV scheme. The PM-Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan has also identified 834 habitations in 652 villages, including 543 in aspirational districts, for further development.

In a continued push to strengthen connectivity, Chief Minister Sarma recently performed the Bhumi Pujan for the Loh Purush Bishnuram Medhi Setu, a 12.2 km bridge linking Palasbari and Sualkuchi. This bridge, the eighth over the Brahmaputra River, will significantly enhance the connection between Sualkuchi, known for its silk industry, and Palasbari, a rapidly growing economic hub.

With an estimated cost of Rs 3,197 crore, the project is expected to be completed by June 2028. Since 2014, the number of bridges over the Brahmaputra has increased significantly, with three new bridges already operational and several more under construction.
