A government official in Nagaon district was arrested on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe, following a trap operation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC) unit of Assam Police.
The accused, Shravan Kumar Bora, serving as District Programme Manager (DPM) at the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, reportedly demanded ₹20,000 from a complainant to clear unpaid Performance-Based Incentive arrears.
According to Rajib Saikia, CPRO of Assam Police, the complainant refused to pay the bribe and approached the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. Acting on the complaint, officials set up a trap near the health office, where Bora was caught accepting ₹10,000 of the demanded amount. The cash was seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
The Directorate confirmed that sufficient evidence was found to prove the bribery attempt. Bora was arrested, and a case was registered at the ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Investigations are ongoing.
