The Assam government has transferred 14 senior IAS and state services officers in a major administrative reshuffle just months ahead of the state assembly elections scheduled for March-April.
The Personnel Department issued the orders on Wednesday, with several District Commissioners (DCs) among those affected. Kamrup Metropolitan DC Sumit Sattawan has been moved to Tinsukia, while Tinsukia DC Swapneel Paul takes charge in Kamrup Metropolitan.
Aranyak Saikia, staff officer to the chief secretary, has been appointed DC of Karbi Anglong, replacing Nirala Phangshopi, who shifts to Additional Secretary in the Hill Areas Department. Sivasagar DC Aayush Garg and Cachar DC Mridul Yadav have exchanged postings, as have Dhubri DC Dibakar Nath and Bongaigaon DC Nabadeep Pathak.
Other key changes include: Kokrajhar DC and Director of Training at Bodoland Administrative Staff College, Masanda Magdalin Pertin, posted as Joint Secretary in the Finance Department, with Tamulpur DC Pankaj Chakravarty assuming her role in Kokrajhar. Simi Karan, Joint Secretary in Environment & Forest and Housing & Urban Affairs, becomes Tamulpur DC.
Inspector General of Prisons and Home & Political Secretary Pubali Gohain has been appointed Darrang DC, succeeding Parag Kumar Kakaty, who moves to Golaghat as DC. Golaghat DC Pulak Mahanta has been appointed Inspector General of Prisons.
This reshuffle comes amid preparations for the upcoming elections and reflects a significant reorganization of Assam’s administrative leadership.
