Guwahati, Dec 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the state government has saved more than Rs 33 crore in electricity expenses over the past nine months. The savings were achieved through a combination of measures aimed at reducing power consumption and improving billing practices.
In a post on X, Sarma explained that the savings were the result of accurate billing, automatic disconnection of power, individual metering, and self-payment systems for ministers and officials. The installation of smart meters in government offices also played a significant role in reducing costs.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma highlighted that automatic disconnections in government offices further helped in reducing unnecessary power consumption, contributing to the overall savings for the state.
