Guwahati, Jun 9: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the Assam government will intensify efforts to identify and evict illegal foreigners by enforcing the provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1950.
Speaking during a special day-long session of the Assam Assembly on June 9, Sarma said district commissioners have been empowered under the Act to declare individuals as illegal immigrants and initiate eviction proceedings.
He also accused the Congress party of disregarding the importance of Indian citizenship, alleging that three out of four family members of a Congress leader have been identified as foreigners.
