Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday inaugurated a six-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) at Cotton University, focusing on the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems with Artificial Intelligence for contemporary education.
The programme, titled “Indian Knowledge System and Artificial Intelligence: A Prerequisite Blend for 21st Century Education,” is being jointly organised by the Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Varanasi, and Cotton University under the Lok Bhavan, Assam initiative.
Addressing the participants, the Governor described teaching as a profession that plays a key role in shaping personality, values, and social responsibility, beyond the transfer of academic knowledge. He stressed the need to move towards experiential, learner-centric, and field-based teaching practices.
Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), Acharya said it provides a framework to promote research, innovation, and critical thinking among teachers and students. He stated that the policy seeks to connect India’s traditional knowledge systems with modern science and technology.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence, guided by human values, to ensure inclusive and sustainable outcomes. He noted that the region’s cultural heritage, ecological understanding, and indigenous knowledge could offer meaningful solutions when combined with modern technology.
He expressed confidence that the FDP would strengthen the capabilities of educators, encourage collaborative research, and support innovative teaching practices, contributing to the development of India’s education system and a knowledge-driven society.
