The new Terminal 2 at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati will open for passengers on February 22, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on February 15.
The Rs 4,000-crore terminal, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been designed under the theme “Bamboo Orchids” to reflect Assam’s rich natural heritage and cultural ethos. Including maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities, the total project cost is around Rs 5,000 crore.
Spanning 1.4 lakh square metres, the terminal is seven times larger than the existing facility and can handle up to 13.1 million passengers annually, with a capacity of 34 air traffic movements per hour the highest in the Northeast.
The terminal features modern amenities such as DigiYatra contactless entry points, automated baggage handling, and fast-track security systems to ensure smooth and convenient passenger operations.
