Assam: Guwahati Student Dies After Being Hit By 108 Ambulance During Saraswati Puja

Guwahati, Jan 24: A young law student was killed and another person critically injured after a speeding 108 ambulance hit them at Kahilipara in Guwahati on Friday, on the eve of Saraswati Puja, police said.

The deceased was identified as Luna Bhardwaj, a student of J.B. Law College from Uttar Shalmara in Bongaigaon district. According to sources, she was scheduled to join Axis Bank for a new job in two days. Eyewitnesses stated that the ambulance struck her and fled the spot.

Another victim, Achyut Baruah of Dergaon in Golaghat district, sustained critical injuries and was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Dispur Police later seized the ambulance and initiated an investigation. The driver of the vehicle is currently absconding.

Meanwhile, the 108 Employees’ Association alleged that the incident was linked to issues in driver deployment by GVK EMRI, the agency operating the ambulance service. The association, which has been holding protests in Guwahati, claimed the driver involved was temporarily engaged. The association has sought a thorough inquiry and corrective measures.
